Your hot tub cover is an essential component for your hot tub. When closed it keeps your hot tub insulated and keeps debris from blowing or falling in. When open and used with a cover lift, it can provide privacy or serve as a wind block. But how should you clean it?
LIFE EXPECTANCY OF A COVER
The life expectancy of a hot tub cover is typically 5-10 years, depending on how they’re cared for (not to mention how Mother Nature acts!).
We’ve had some customers that got well over 10 years, while we’ve had others who have been unlucky with a hail storm and get less than 5 years.
WHY CLEANING YOUR COVER HELPS
Keeping your hot tub clean serves a couple of purposes. Of course, it helps to keep it looking nice – and remember, 90% of the time the cover is closed and that’s what people see! But more importantly, if you use the proper materials and chemicals, regular cleaning will keep your cover supple (i.e. less susceptible to debris like branches or hail) and the cleaners we recommend contain a UV Protectant as well.
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR COVER
First, pick up a bottle of 303 Vinyl Protectant. This is a great product that is like a moisturizer / sunscreen for your hot tub cover. Before you apply the 303 Vinyl Protectant, take a damp rag and wipe off the dust and dirt from your cover. It doesn’t have to be clean enough to eat off of, but get the gunk off. Then spray the 303 on liberally and wipe/rub and small circles. Last, enjoy how nice it looks!
HOW FREQUENTLY TO CLEAN YOUR COVER
We recommend cleaning once a month. A good way to remember is to mark one day of the month to (a) clean your cover, and (b) remove your filters and clean those off too.
